Kate Starbird, associate professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering and director of the UW Center for an Informed Public, spoke with Dr. Umair A. Shah, Washington State Secretary of Health, for the Public Health Connects Speaker Series.

In the 30-minute conversation, Starbird and Shah discussed the landscape of misinformation, disinformation, and rumoring on social media, and its impacts on public health. Starbird overviews the past decade of researching in this field with UW students and collaborators, and describes the challenges and opportunities ahead for the public as we learn to better navigate our online spaces.
