HCAI certificate students

The Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence certificate focuses on how to design, evaluate, and understand AI systems in ways that center human values, needs, and impacts.

Once admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, students receive course registration details and guidance on how to get started in the program.

Courses & scheduling

Certificate courses explore how to design, evaluate, and understand AI systems in ways that center human needs and societal impact. Topics include machine learning applications, responsible and ethical AI, data and society, and human-AI interaction. Students complete the certificate over four consecutive quarters.

Completing the certificate

Students earn the certificate by successfully completing three required courses and one elective course.

Policy

To remain in the program, students must earn a minimum final grade of 2.7 in each course. Students who do not meet this requirement will be withdrawn from the program at the end of that quarter and are not eligible to retake the course.
