Tuition and fees

This information applies to both the User Centered Design (UCD) and Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) graduate certificates.

2025–2026 academic year

Please note: Estimated quarterly tuition and fee totals do not include the cost of textbooks or other course materials. Tuition rates may increase slightly from year to year and are intended for planning purposes only.

All students—regardless of Washington residency status or international location—pay the same tuition and fee rates.

Tuition deadlines

Tuition is due by the third Friday of each academic quarter. Students in these fee-based certificate programs manage two financial accounts through the MyUW portal:

  • Student fees are paid to UW Student Fiscal Services
  • Tuition payments are made to UW Continuum College (PCE)

For payment instructions and options, visit the Payment Procedures for Fee-Based Degree Students.

Tuition exemption unavailable

HCDE graduate certificate programs are self-sustaining and are not supported by state funding. As such, they do not participate in the University of Washington’s Tuition Exemption program for state employees.

Financial aid

HCDE certificate programs do not offer scholarships or direct tuition support. However, some students may qualify for federal student loans by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

For more information about eligibility and resources, visit the UW Office of Student Financial Aid.
