The Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering cares deeply about the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community. This page helps connect HCDE students to University of Washington resources related to campus safety and immigration enforcement. In alignment with university guidance, HCDE directs students to the official UW resources and updates maintained by campus leadership and safety offices.
- The Campus Community Safety blog provides updates and guidance on protocols for responding to requests from federal law enforcement agencies. The Division of Campus Community Safety leads planning, prevention, response and recovery for the UW through three key emergency and safety response units: UW Emergency Management, UW SafeCampus, and UW Police (in Seattle).
- UW Leadership is closely evaluating and monitoring changes in federal policies and the possible impacts they could have on members of our community. New postings are shared on the Provost's Blog.
- UW Global maintains a Global Community Resources site, which offers information and support for students, as well as scholars, who do not hold U.S. citizenship. As a collaboration of International Student Services on all three campuses, International Scholars Operations, Global Affairs and English Language Program, the site includes links to UW resources such Student Legal Services, UW Leadership without Borders, SafeCampus, the UW's Immigration Law Clinic, and the Counseling Center.
New immigration information and policy changes for F-1 and J-1 students are posted on the ISS Blog.
If HCDE students require financial support, they are eligible to apply for emergency funds from the department, which lists legal fees as one of the areas of support that the funds can cover. The HCDE front desk in Sieg 428 and many faculty and staff offices carry Know Your Rights cards. In addition to consulting your ISS advisor and lawyer, if students face a disruption that impacts their ability to attend class or their UW employment, they should contact their HCDE Academic Advisor for support and next steps.
