HCDE 2021 Student Awards of Excellence
With the 2021 HCDE Student Awards of Excellence, HCDE faculty recognize graduate students Jazz Ang, Shelby Zink, Lucas Colusso, Arpita, Honson Ling, Ethel Xu, Patriya Wiesmann, Xuan Song, Shelby Zink, Taylor Honda, Jay Cunningham, Susanne Kirchner, Neilly Herrera Tan, and undergraduate students Kay Waller, Kari Bergstedt, Jordan Yoon-Buck, Lexi Leo Rohrer, and Vishaka Nirmal. The annual awards honor students who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating greatness in academic excellence, leadership and engagement, and innovation.

HCDE Professor Nadya Peek receives UW Distinguished Teaching Award for Innovation with Technology
Nadya Peek's digital fabrication course relies on in-person instruction in a makerspace where students can access 3D printers. When the pandemic made that impossible, Professor Peek developed a new curriculum that helped students master computer-aided design and 3D printing skills from home.

HCDE Affiliate Instructor Daniella Kim receives the 2021 Mikey Award
The Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering is presenting the 2021 Mikey Award to Dr. Daniella Kim, UX research leader and an affiliate instructor in HCDE. The Myron L. White Award, or the "Mikey Award," is named after the co-founder of the department. It is presented annually by HCDE faculty to leaders in the field and dedicated friends of the department.

Nadya Peek receives Moore Foundation award to develop new automation tools with scientists
HCDE assistant professor Nadya Peek is the principal investigator on a new project supported by the Moore Foundation to develop modular, low-cost tools for scientific exploration.

Announcing The Otherwise School summer program
HCDE announces The Otherwise School, a new summer program aimed at developing tools and techniques of counter-fascism. The Otherwise School is led by HCDE Assistant Professor Sucheta Ghoshal’s research collective, Inquilab, and We Be Imagining, an initiative led by J. Khadijah Abdurahaman. The Summer 2021 program will be held from June 14 – July 23, 2021.
