Selecting an advisory committee
PhD students must select an advisory committee chair no later than autumn quarter of their second year in HCDE, if not already assigned. To officially designate an advisory committee chair, the PhD Advisory Committee Chair Designation form must be submitted to the HCDE Director of Academic Services, Kathleen Rascon (khorenst@uw.edu). Students may change their committee chair or committee members throughout the program. Meet with the Director of Academic Services to discuss. HCDE students must designate their full doctoral committee at least four months prior to starting the General Exam, which typically takes place at the end of their third year in the program.
