CELT Hosts Reception at ASEE Conference

At last month's American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference in Vancouver, BC, the Center for Engineering Learning & Teaching (directed by Cindy Atman, HCDE faculty) and the University of Wisconsin co-hosted a reception for colleagues, alumni, family, and friends. This reception provided an opportunity to nurture social networks on both campuses and build a stronger foundation for engineering educators and researchers.

HCDE and Corporate Affiliate Team Shine in National Software Competition

A research and development team lead by recently graduated MS student Michael Watt, Professor Mark Haselkorn, and Affiliate Professor Keith Butler, in partnership with HCDE Corporate Affiliate General UI, is one of the top award winners in a national Challenge competition for Smart Apps (SMART) for healthcare, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

HCDE PhD Program Hits Growth Spurt

In 2002, the metaphorical red ribbon was cut that strung across the doors of the HCDE PhD program—honoring the brand new program. Four years later, the first student of the PhD program graduated, and today, 25 students study in the growing department. Recent grad Jaret Basden reports.

Graduate Students Robin Mays and Rebecca Walton and Professor Mark Haselkorn co-authored "Defining 'Fast:' Factors Affecting the Experience of Speed in Humanitarian Logistics," which was awarded best paper for the 2011 International Conference on Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (ISCRAM).

The first annual Shobe Prize has been awarded for the design of an iPhone application call .calm. Team members included Wayne Gerard, Alexis Hope, Brian Le, Kate MacCorkle, Clint Tseng, and Megan Langley. the project grew out of a class assignment in a CSE class this past year.
