HCDE’s Career Trek program
HCDE occasionally partners with regional organizations to host students for tours, Q&A sessions, and networking opportunities. We try our best to advance our students' career goals, please note that HCDE career treks are NOT recruiting trips and participation does not guarantee access to hiring.

How to apply for Career Treks
- Application period: Applications are accepted 2–3 weeks before each event.
- Transportation: Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.
- Limited spots: Due to the nature of these events, each trek can only accommodate 10–15 students. Applications will be reviewed and selected based on the criteria below.
Application process
- Where to apply: Links to applications will be sent via the Tuesday Tips newsletter. This email is sent from Kathleen Rascon or Melissa Ewing to all HCDE students via the HCDE email listserv.
- Notification: Selected students will receive a confirmation email by the Friday following the Tuesday Tips announcement.
Application criteria
Your application will be evaluated based on the following factors:
- Resume quality:
- Submit a resume link in your application.
- Ensure your resume is updated with tips from HCDE's Crowdsourced Careers Spreadsheet.
- Consider having your resume reviewed by the CoE Career Center.
- Resume content:
- Ensure all bullet points are quantifiable and written in "XYZ resume format."
- Include a link to your portfolio on your resume (with the password if needed).
- Clearly indicate your intended graduation year.
- Label any student projects as "academic" or "student" projects. Do not list company work unless you received a W-2 or explicitly state that it was an internship or volunteer project.
- Key questions:
- List three questions you would like to ask the employers that cannot easily be found online.
Be prepared to list how does a visit to the host organization would connect to your professional or academic goals, and what do you hope to gain from the experience.
