GRE Exam for PhD Admission
All applicants for the HCDE PhD program must submit GRE scores. Applicants should plan to take the GRE at least two weeks before the December 2, 2019 deadline. Since test scores are transferred electronically, the UW Graduate Admissions Office will receive the scores within 7–10 days after taking the exam. If an applicant has completed a graduate degree that required a prior GRE exam, the applicant is not required to retake the GRE if past scores can be submitted to HCDE. Other standardized graduate school exams are not an acceptable alternative to the GRE.
- GRE scores should be no more than five years old. The only case in which scores may be older than five years is if the applicant has completed a graduate degree at an accredited US Institution.
- While a minimum GRE score is not required, successful applicants demonstrate highly competitive scores.
- It may take several weeks for GRE scores to show as being "received" by the University of Washington. After applying, periodically log-in to your application profile to check the status of the scores.
- The GRE institutional code is 4854.
