Sean Munson promoted to associate professor

Sean MunsonThe Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering is pleased to announce the promotion of faculty member Dr. Sean Munson to Associate Professor with Tenure, effective at the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year.

Dr. Sean Munson has been a faculty member in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering since 2012. In that time, he has made significant contributions to the areas of technology for health and wellness and exposure to diverse information. He has designed and evaluated tools that help people make sense of personal data, taught undergraduate and graduate courses on topics such as usability studies and interactive systems design, and served as an advisor for several doctoral students in HCDE and UW's Allen School for Computer Science & Engineering.

In 2017, Dr. Munson received the junior faculty award from the UW College of Engineering, recognizing his excellence in research and teaching. Since 2017 alone, he has published 18 peer-reviewed conference papers, journal articles, and book chapters, receiving two awards for Best Paper and four additional awards for Best Paper Honorable Mention.

Dr. Munson directs HCDE’s Laboratory for Influence in Sociotechnical Systems, where his students design, build, and evaluate systems designed to encourage people toward socially desirable outcomes while respecting individual autonomy. He holds an adjunct appointment in UW's Allen School for Computer Science & Engineering.
