The Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Munson as an Assistant Professor in HCDE. Munson will join HCDE's faculty beginning with the 2012–2013 academic year. Munson is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan's School of Information, where he studies the use of social software to support positive behavior change. His work primarily focuses on the domains of political news and opinion access and health and wellness, and he is most interested in the intersection between user-centered design and systems engineering.
Munson completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a concentration in Systems Design at Olin College in 2006. At Olin, he was one of 30 students who spent a year developing the new college's curriculum and student life programs before becoming part of the first-ever class. He has been a political blogger and, while working at Boeing, designed concepts for future passenger airplane interiors.
In addition to numerous honors, including, most recently, an Intel PhD Fellowship, a Yahoo! Innovative Teaching with Technology Award, and the University of Michigan's Gary M. Olson Outstanding PhD Student Award, Munson is an Eagle Scout and was also interviewed by The Daily Show in 2004 while working as a political blogger. More information about Munson is available on his website, www.smunson.com.
