Gut Guru - Mobile app allows users to track symptoms related to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Photo by Jennifer Kim.

The UW Daily recently featured a story about Gut Guru, a mobile medical app to help patients reduce symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), conceived by Dr. Jasmine Zia, a gastroenterologist at the UW Medical Center.

Zia is currently conducting a pilot study and working with UW computer scientists to integrate data analytics to the app, tracking food intake and IBS symptoms.

Human Centered Design & Engineering Assistant Professor Sean Munson is involved with the design of Gut Guru. Munson gives his take on the future challenges and benefits of collecting this data on an app in the Daily's article Health care? There's an app for that: Gut Guru.
