Jan Spyridakis Receives NSF Award

Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) Professor and Chair Jan SpyridakisHuman Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) Professor and Chair Jan Spyridakis has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) award to create an online, open source toolkit as part of efforts by the University of Washington's ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change to promote the advancement of women and other underrepresented faculty in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) departments across the nation. The principal investigator (PI) for the award is Electrical Engineering Professor and College of Engineering Associate Dean Eve Riskin, with ADVANCE Program and Research Manager Joyce Yen and Spyridakis acting as co-PIs.

The development of this toolkit will help meet the high national demand for ADVANCE Leadership Excellence for Academic Diversity (LEAD) workshops. The goal of the project is to make LEAD content accessible to a larger community of higher education leaders and support independently-run academic diversity leadership development workshops throughout the country.
