Cecilia Aragon gives plenary address at Supercomputing Conference

Cecilia Aragon, professor in Human Centered Design & Engineering, gave a plenary address at the Supercomputing Conference 2018 (SC18), for the 30th anniversary of the conference series, on November 15, 2018.

With more than 13,000 in attendance at the 2018 event, SC is the largest international conference covering high performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. SC plenary speakers are invited to present on innovative technical contributions and their applications in addressing some of the most complex questions of our time.

In her talk talk, The Human Side of Data Science, Aragon discussed the importance of human-centered data science in the success of 21st century discovery. She explored how the human aspects—including maximizing scientific creativity and human insights, addressing ethical concerns, and consideration of societal impacts—are vital to the future of data science.

In addition to her role of professor in the department of Human Centered Design & Engineering, Aragon is Director of the Human Centered Data Science Lab, founding co-director of the UW Data Science Master’s Program, and senior data science fellow at the UW eScience Institute.
