Alex Thayer, Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) PhD candidate, is one of the co-chairs of the Educational Interfaces, Software, and Technology (EIST) Workshop at CHI 2012.
The Educational Interfaces, Software, and Technology (EIST) workshop at CHI 2012 is the third workshop in successive years at the CHI conference. The EIST workshop takes as its mission the establishment of an academic venue for researchers to discuss novel educational tools and their role in improving learning outcomes. This workshop aims to fill the void by combining the pedagogical expertise of the cooperative learning and learning sciences communities with the technical creativity of the CHI, UIST, and interactive surface communities.
Along with the other co-chairs, I have been working hard behind the scenes to solicit paper submissions, locate and assign reviewers, write up meta-reviews and organize all of the review responses for the authors, create the two-day workshop agenda, and much more. I am as excited as the other co-chairs to extend CHI ever further in the direction of educational research, and I look forward to helping run the first EIST conference in a couple of years!
