Alumni Network Launch BBQ

Please join the department of Human Centered Design & Engineering for our Alumni Network BBQ and Launch Party on September 29, 2016. This family friendly event welcomes all graduates across HCDE (and TC) programs to come back to campus, connect with former classmates and department faculty, and enjoy the beauty of fall on the UW campus.

2016 Graduation

HCDE held its 2016 Graduation & Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 7. This year the department graduated 47 undergraduate students and 65 graduate students—our largest class to date. Learn more about the HCDE class of 2016 »

Tyler Fox Joins the HCDE Faculty

HCDE welcomes artist, researcher, and educator Dr. Tyler Fox to the department faculty. Fox comes to HCDE from the school of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at UW Bothell, where he was also studio director of the Interactive Media Design program. More » 

Cecilia Aragon Promoted to Professor

Dr. Cecilia Aragon, director of HCDE's Human-Centered Data Science Lab, is promoted to full professor, effective Autumn 2016. Aragon's research focuses on enabling humans to explore and gain insight from vast data sets. More »

Sean Munson Receives Career Award

HCDE Assistant Professor Dr. Sean Munson recently received a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation. This five-year grant will fund Munson’s research on helping people find value in personal informatics data. More »

Directed Research Group Examines Free Online Resources

An HCDE Directed Research Group co-led by Professor Mark Zachry and Jonathan Morgan of the Wikimedia Foundation conducted a study to discover what features students consider most important when they select free online information resources to help them with their school work.

HCDE Researchers Study how Families Manage Screen Time for Young Children

A recent paper authored by HCDE PhD students Alexis Hiniker and Hyewon Suh, MS alumna Sabina Cao, and Associate Professor Julie Kientz examines how families transition to and from ‘screen time’ with children aged 1-5.

Recent HCDE graduate Amy Wang was selected to join the first cohort of the Husky 100, an award recognizing 100 students across all three campuses who are making the most of their time at the UW.
