HCDE Professor Jan Spyridakis is the recipient of the 2016 Rigo Award for lifetime contribution to the field of communication design, from the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on the Design of Communication (SIGDOC).

Disaster Response Research Facility Coming to UW

Dr. Scott Miles, senior research scientist in HCDE's Center for Collaborative Systems for Security, Safety, and Regional Resilience (CoSSaR), is a co-principal investigator on a new NSF award to host the United States’ first post-disaster, rapid response research facility at University of Washington.

HCDE Professor Sean Munson is studying people's post-Fitbit feelings to discover how different design approaches may support people who have lapsed their Fitbit use.

David Ribes to Study Salmon Data
HCDE Professor David Ribes is launching a multi-year ethnographic investigation of how data are integrated across heterogeneous stakeholders concerned with Alaskan salmon in order to understand the challenges, benefits, and costs of data integration and sharing.

Graduate Education in Clean Energy due for Big Data Overhaul
HCDE Professor Cecilia Aragon is a co-principal investigator on an NSF project to bring big data to graduate education in clean energy research at the UW. Known as DIRECT — or Data Intensive Research Enabling Clean Technologies — this traineeship will include practical, data-driven research projects for HCDE graduate students.
