Happy New Year from HCDE!

Dear HCDE Alumni,

We hope this message finds you well and that you had a rewarding 2013. You will be pleased to know the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) has continued on our trajectory of growth in 2013. Last year, we welcomed three new faculty members to HCDE and are now serving nearly 400 students.

We wanted to let you know about a few upcoming events that we hoped would interest you.

PROFESSORS JUDY RAMEY AND DAVID FARKAS SERVED THE DEPARTMENT FOR 30 YEARS

HCDE Professors Judy Ramey and David Farkas began teaching with the University of Washington in 1983, but 2013 marked their last quarter with the department. Both Ramey and Farkas were pioneers in the fields of technical communication and human centered design, and their contributions will long be remembered.

As announced at Farkas's retirement party last fall, HCDE alumnus and good friend James Prekeges proposed the David Farkas Endowment Fund to honor Farkas’ legacy. Prekeges will donate $15,000 if HCDE can raise $15,000. The endowment will support HCDE undergraduate students with financial need.

When asked about his thoughts on the endowment fund, Farkas said:

“I’ve always been a teacher first. Through the endowment I can still make a contribution to educating students, even though I won’t personally be teaching at UW. I’m very pleased that the endowment will assist students with financial need."

If you can help us honor Dave and reach our goal of raising $15,000, please give to the David Farkas Endowment Fund today.

Thank you for your support!
