Living in Seattle: Activities
On-campus
The University of Washington offers a diverse selection of campus events for students, faculty, and staff. The Husky Union Building (HUB) is the central student union building on campus and features hit movies, cafes, study areas, and other services. Also on campus is the Intramural Activities Building (IMA) which offers the following:
- IMA fitness center
- Indoor climbing center
- Four international Squash courts
- Indoor jogging / walking track
- Personal Trainers Program
- Dawg Bites Sports Cafe
- Three multi-activity studios
- Night-lighted synthetic turf sports field
On campus, students can also attend plays by the drama department, see artistic performances at Meany Hall, as well as visit the Burke Museum, the state's museum of natural and cultural history, the Henry Art Gallery, and a collection of exhibitions and programs of contemporary and modern art. Student-led organizations also host social events that are great places to meet new people and get involved with campus issues.
Off-campus
A great part of the UW experience is having fun in and around Seattle. In addition to watching Husky football in the fall and Husky basketball in the winter, students attend professional sports including:
- Seattle Mariners baseball games at Safeco Field
- Seattle Seahawks football games at Qwest Field
- Seattle Sounders FC soccer games at Qwest Field
For music-lovers, the Experience Music Project (EMP) is a one-of-its-kind museum dedicated to rock music. Next to EMP, is Seattle's true landmark, the Space Needle. From the Space Needle, the Monorail, a subway-like system above the ground, shuttles people directly downtown to top-notch shopping and Seattle's famous Pike Place Public Market, which is within walking distance. Rain or shine, Pike Place Market offers a variety of products, including fresh seafood and produce, beautiful flowers, and original artwork by local artists.
