Using LUTE
LUTE is an interdisciplinary facility, which funded by the UW Student Technology Fee and by collaborative research projects funded by companies and organizations. LUTE supports research projects led by UW faculty and students, and provides training facilities for graduate and undergraduate students who are studying usability engineering and user interface design. LUTE is also interested in cultivating long-term industry partnerships who want to run at least four studies/year in LUTE; interested parties should contact LUTE for details in setting up a relationship.
Before using LUTE, everyone must take part in a brief training session/tour of LUTE and sign a lab door code agreement before gaining independent access to the lab. Industry groups who are interested in doing usability studies in LUTE should contact lutelab@u.washington.edu
UW Students:
Any student enrolled in at least one class at UW can use LUTE for student projects and pilot studies. Reservation of LUTE facilities and equipment for student usage is paid for by the University of Washington Student Technology Fee. Students who are performing unfunded research (student projects, class projects, and pilot studies) should follow these procedures to reserve the LUTE or check out equipment.
UW Faculty, Staff, and Researchers:
Faculty, staff, and researchers at UW can include LUTE in their research or usability study plans. The laboratory and equipment are available for rental, and LUTE can provide or recommend research personnel and usability specialists for your project. For information about rental procedures, rental rates, and graduate research assistant pay rates please contact lutelab@u.washington.edu . Students who are employed on funded research projects and wish to use LUTE facilities part of their employment must seek approval from their supervisor to use their research budget to pay for LUTE rental fees. Human subjects approval requirements may apply to your project.
Projects inquiries should be emailed to lutelab@u.washington.edu.
Industry:
LUTE works with industry partners who want to establish a long-term relationship with LUTE (one year or longer) to provide quality assurance studies that test the usability of Web sites, software, hardware interfaces, and product documentation. For information about rental procedures, rental rates, and graduate research assistant pay rates, please contact lutelab@u.washington.edu.
