Associations & Conferences

The following is a list of academic and professional associations that HCDE faculty and students commonly belong to:

• ACM SIGCHI (or just "CHI"). Many professionals belong the Association for Computing Machinery's special interest group for those interested in the computer-human interface. Also check out the SIGCHI UW student chapter or the Puget Sound GIGCHI for local events and happenings.
• ACM SIGDOC. Professionals working on the design of communication can benefit from this special interest group of the Association for Computing Machinery.
• Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW).
• IEEE Professional Communication Society (PCS).
• International Communication Association.
• Society for Technical Communication (STC). If you live in the Seattle area, check the web page for the STC's Puget Sound Chapter. If are an STC student chapter member, check the University of Washington STC.
• Usability Professionals Association.
