Day Master of Science
The Master of Science in Human Centered Design and Engineering program prepares students for leadership roles in technical careers like information design, user interface design, usability testing, human-computer interaction, technical communication, and other technical specializations.
The MS in HCDE curriculum, which comprises 41 credits, focuses on helping students refine their skills in the design, production, and evaluation of technical information. In addition to regular class work, students may work in directed research groups, where they help faculty members with research on specific topics.
The department offers the Master's degree in two formats, one that meets in the day and another that meets in the evening, so as to accommodate the schedules of working professionals. The daytime MS program differs from the evening program in terms of how it is funded. The day program is state-supported, while the evening program is offered through our partner, UW Educational Outreach (UWEO). Because the evening program is a self-sustaining program, its tuition rate is slightly higher than the day program; the higher tuition rate helps defray the cost to run the evening program. Students in both programs must complete the Master’s degree within 3 years of admission; most students finish within 1–2 years.
