Transfer Students

The University of Washington's Human Centered Design & Engineering program is a diverse mix of people, which proudly includes transfer students. When preparing to transfer to the University of Washington, students should consult a transfer adviser in the Office of Admissions.

UW Course Equivalency

To assist students in determining how their credits will transfer, the UW has created an Equivalency Guide for all Washington state community colleges.

Applying to Human Centered Design & Engineering

Transfer students can apply concurrently to the University of Washington and to the BS in HCDE program. We offer admission for autumn quarter and spring quarter each year. To access the BS in HCDE application through the College of Engineering, please visit our admissions page. Be mindful of the UW transfer admission dates when applying.

Petitioning Transfer Credits

If your transfer credits appear on your UW transcript as 1XX, 2XX, 3XX, or 4XX (i.e. Bio 2XX), that indicates that UW does not have an equivalent course. Once you are a declared BS in HCDE student, you can petition these credits if you feel they fulfill program requirements.

How to petition transfer credits: Once you have determined which transfer credits you would like to petition, you need to contact the undergraduate faculty adviser and academic adviser with the following information:

  1. Which course you would like to petition
  2. What requirements you believe these credits satisfy
  3. Some form of documentation that explains what the course covered (i.e. course syllabus)
  4. A brief statement explaining why these credits satisfy the requirement

Once your petition has been reviewed, you will receive a response indicating if the coursework has been approved. If approved, the academic adviser will update your DARS report to reflect this decision. If you are petitioning multiple courses, be sure to provide the above information for each course.
