Application
Applying for Admission
Before applying for admission to the BS in HCDE program, make sure to review the admission requirements and graduation requirements. Speak to an adviser if you have questions. Then follow these steps:
1. Check the application deadlines:
Two groups of students are admitted to the department each year:
- Early Admissions Group: Students with fewer than 60 total credits who meet the basic admission requirements can apply for Early Admission for autumn quarter.
- Upper Division Admissions Group: Students with 60 or more total credits, including the 38 credits needed to meet the basic admission requirements , can apply for Upper Division Admission for autumn or spring quarter.
The application deadlines are as follows:
- For autumn quarter: July 1
- For spring quarter (Upper Division Admissions only): February 1
2. Contact the HCDE Department:
It is a good idea to contact the department well in advance of submitting your application. The academic adviser, and faculty undergraduate adviser will be your main advising contacts.
Our advisers help students apply to the department, plan their schedules, and meet graduation requirements. The academic adviser should be your first point of contact for nearly all of your advising questions. The faculty undergraduate adviser is the contact person for any substitutions or petitions for HCDE Approved Electives.
You should set up a meeting with either of our advisers soon after you decide to apply to the HCDE Department. Together you and your adviser will review your eligibility and discuss plans to help you prepare for admission.
3. Complete and submit the online application by the deadline. The online College of Engineering application is available one month prior to the application due date: http://www.engr.washington.edu/uapp/.
Note: The HCDE Department will keep your application on file for one year after the application deadline. If you are not accepted, or should you decline admission, your application materials will be shredded.
