Emeriti Faculty

Listed below are HCDE's emeriti faculty. Some are still deeply involved in the department and continue to contribute to all that we do. All had incredible dedication to teaching, research, and service at the University of Washington.

Phil Bereano (pbereano@uw.edu): Technology and public policy; technology assessment; assessments of genetic/computer/information technologies; citizen participation in technology policy decision making; technology and civil liberties.

Mary Coney (mconey@uw.edu): Rhetoric in technical discourse: evaluating and designing personas online; roles and functions of readers and writers in the communication process; critical theories of knowledge and scientific texts.

Judy Ramey (jramey@uw.edu): User research and usability research methods (e.g., experience sampling, eye-tracking); the mobile user experience.

Tom Williams (tomwill@uw.edu): Visual media; investigation of the effects of graphic variables on attention, comprehension, recall, and performance.
